Microneedling and dermarolling are skin care treatments that use tiny needles to create small tears in the skin. The body counteracts this by producing new collagen and fresh cells to repair the skin. The newly-formed skin cells replace the damaged ones, resulting in smooth skin and smaller, less visible pores. This is why microneedling are dermarolling are known as natural collagen-boosting treatments!
But it doesn't end there, babe. Other benefits of this skin treatment are the brightening dark spots / treating hyperpigmentation, shrinking pores, reducing fine lines & wrinkles, healing post-breakout scars, rejuvenating and plumping skin, and stimulates hair growth on eyebrows & hair line.
Our Micro Needle Roller is safe to use at home. You may experience a little bit of discomfort the first few times, but your skin will quickly adjust and get used to it. It has an ergonomic handle & anti-slip grip which makes it easy to hold and allows for easy and comfortable rolling across the skin, in addition to providing stability and control.
Standard Babe, Thuli Njapa, uses our Hyaluronic Acid serum with her micro needle roller for deeper hydration.
How To Use A Micro Needle Roller:
STEP 1: Sterilise your micro needle roller by soaking it in an alcohol solution (min. 70%) for 5 minutes.
STEP 2: Cleanse and tone your face while the micro needle roller is soaking.
STEP 3: Apply serum to your face. Apply gentle pressure with the micro needle roller and roll in one direction 6 to 8 times forwards and backwards: first vertically, then horizontally, and then diagonally. Lift the micro needle roller slightly after each roll to create new micro-channels in the skin, instead of going over the same ones repeatedly.
STEP 4: When you’re done, wait 10 mins before re- applying another serum and/or moisturiser.
Which Skin Care Products To Use?
Using the micro needle roller in conjunction with specific products results in deeper penetration of said products into the skin. This means they work more quickly and effectively than when used without the micro needle roller.
Any products that are applied after dermarolling will be more deeply absorbed into the skin, and these include all water-based serums, oil-based serums and moisturisers.
Ideal dermarolling routine:
1. Cleanse and tone your face
2. Apply water-based serum/s to your face and work into the skin with the micro needle roller. Hyaluronic Acid will hydrate the skin and address wrinkles and fine lines, Niacinamide will even out skin texture, Alpha Arbutin will address post-breakout scars and brighten the skin, and *Retinol will address large pores. *Note: If you have sensitive skin, rather leave out the Retinol, as it could increase sensitivity.
3. Gently apply moisturiser/s to your face. Our Renew Your Dew Ceramide Butter will be particularly effective here in repairing the skin barrier after microneedling / dermarolling.
4. Gently apply oil-based serum/s to your face with your fingertips. Squalane will boost collagen even further, Rosehip Oil will hydrate the skin and provide an even skin tone, Marula Oil will address wrinkles and fine lines, and *Vitamin C will address post-breakout scarring and brighten the skin. *Note: If you have sensitive skin, rather leave out the Vitamin C, as it could increase sensitivity.
What Are the Risks?
There aren't so many risks as there are precautions to take when using a micro needle roller at home. It's important to sterilise the micro needle roller before and after each use to minimise any risk of infection, considering that this tool tears the skin, and anything that enters these tears could cause unwanted damage. It's also important to note that microneedling/dermarolling should not be conducted on active breakouts or otherwise infected or inflamed skin.
If you have a reaction during or after conducting this skin treatment, it is more likely to be as a result of the cream or serum that you have used as opposed to the micro needle roller itself. Remember - not all skin care ingredients are safe to combine / use together. This is why it is important to read the ingredients lists and combination guidelines carefully before applying any two or more products to your skin.
