Alpha Arbutin: What Is It and Why Should We Use It?

An introduction to the superstar skin brightening ingredient that will give you the glowing, even complexion you've always dreamed of

What Is It?

Alpha Arbutin is a naturally-occurring compound found in a variety of plant sources, including mulberries and pomegranates. It is known for having the effect of brightening the skin without bleaching it, as is the case with some of the other skin brightening products on the market. One of the reasons people love this ingredient is because it doesn't just treat pigmentation but prevents it too.

Beneficial Properties:

Alpha Arbutin has the following beneficial properties:

- Evens out skin tone

- Reduces redness

- Removes age spots and breakout scarring

- Anti-inflammatory

- Provides the skin with antioxidants

Who Can Use It?

Alpha Arbutin is everybody's bestie and is safe for all skin types and skin tones. So if you're looking to fade any kind of skin discolouration - and you're not pregnant - then you're good to go! Those of you who have sensitive skin are probably wondering if you're included in this category, because, let's be honest, one can never be 100% sure, right? Well the good news is, Alpha Arbutin is known for being gentler than other skin brighteners like Retinol, and is generally relatively well-tolerated compared to other powerful ingredients like acids and peels, which often cause irritation and dryness.

And there's more! This ingredient has not been shown to negatively interact with any other ingredients, so you shouldn't have any problems working it into your existing skincare routine. So this baby really is everyone's bestie 🙌

How to Use It?

Our Alpha Arbutin serum can be applied after washing and toning your face, and before applying moisturiser. Using our AHA Lactic Acid Toner in the same routine will result in improved absorption of the serum. It can be worn day and/or night, and should be applied to clean dry skin, before moisturising. Applying our Vitamin C serum after your moisturiser in the nighttime routine will also boost the benefits of Alpha Arbutin.

As you can see, this ingredient is a real game changer. It is important to remember, however, that treating pigmentation takes time. Commit to using Alpha Arbutin in your daily skincare routine and if you persevere your skin will certainly thank you in the long run! 💛
